    Bikes I've owned:

1955 Matchless 350 single, with 'jam pot' shockies.
    BSA 441 single.
Kawasaki 350 twin 2 stroke, with rotary disc valves.
    Kawasaki Mach 3 500 triple.
    Honda 550 four.

I don't own a bike at present, and I don't want one now, but I thought the bike below, which I saw at Mannheim Fowles auctions in Melbourne, was interesting enough to show:

I think, from memory, the brand is Bimota. Check out the front suspension and the steering.

My current bikes are a KTM 530 EXC that's been modified for navigation rally racing. Here we are in the 2010 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge back in April:

Riding gear is pretty full on for a world championship round like that and I don't scrimp the dollars on this stuff - it's saved my life more than once!:

Off to do it again in March 2011 ... then the Australasian Safari in September.

I forgot to mention the other bike - a 1988 Cagiva 750 Elefant. It's No. 257 of the 500 made and is the limited "Lucky Explorer" version to celebrate the Cagiva win of the Paris Dakar in 1988.

    All my pics are predigital, and not obtainable but have had;

XL250R, KDX200, XT600, DR650RS, the latter I used for 'touring' around WA. It had the 22litre tank and fairing etc.

Had a few big injuries caused mostly by car drivers, (and me in the dirt too) that included broken Right Calcaenium and tendon tear(Kickstarting the DR and missed the compression click) a broken Left Tarsus Bone, at Steep Point on the DR again, (big heavy bike, it fell on my foot and I felt it go crack through the new Alpine stars I had bought to protect my feet after the kickstart injury) A smashed L knee and nerve damage (KDX200, never ride one of these rocket ships with a balding rear tyre) Shattered L shoulder and humerus, 3 crushed Throracic vertabrae and severe concussion (on my 250cc minding my own business through an intersection at 60 and vehicle waiting turn right did just that, into ME)

And a few other assorted sprains and cuts etc.

Love riding but I have a few near misses so feeling lucky, want to keep it that way

Talking aboutthe Cagiva Elefant, saw Alan Cunningham get hit through a bull gate on his during 1992 aust safari, his femur looked pretty stark amid all the blood and red dust

    Nice bike though

Me and my '07 Yamaha TDM900 bought new in December 2007. This pic taken on the Alpine Way NSW last month on 1500km weekend ride with my brother on his '05 BMW K1200GT. I rarely ride these days after a stroke in December 2009.

Pic's of the Elefant are almost as rare as the beast itself. I'll have to dig a little for some of that. Currently it looks like this:

Which is a great improvement on how it looked a few months ago:

I do have another similar to the first one I posted, with my Paso in the background. These were taken a few years ago and I've sold the Paso since then.

If you're talking about the 530 Rally then I have a few but mostly I'm too busy riding that one. I had plenty of time stuck in a dune set for a few hours in the Emirates to take this one:

The trick with the above one is to find the little critter eyeing me up carefully! It was quite a while before I saw him and I'd been lying there a while.

The start in Abu Dhabi with my bike in the foreground and the Grand Mosque in the background. Amazing experience being there!

The dunes of Liwa. A mate from Oman is on the bike coming down the big dune behind my bike. I stopped for a snack attack and the photo op!

I could keep going for ages but this is probably boring to many people.
    Cheers

this is a pic of my RS, exactly the same.

    Google Image Result for http://www.suzukicycles.org/photos/suzuki-history/1991/1991_DR650RS_blue_450.jpg

I added an oil temp gauge and some pannier racks with bags for touring, and some bark busters modded to fit off a KLR...It'd cruise at 110 loaded up all day, 50mpg. I am pretty vertically challenged though, and a top heavy bike in soft sand usually equals a lot of lifting...

Well, with the Dakar Rally about to start in South America on New Years Day, here's a shot of my bike's dash setup for the Desert Challenge. Same nav gear as used on the Dakar.

... and more getting stuck in sand dunes:

Luckily this time only for a few minutes. Just had to have a rest, a drink and the first pee in several days. (It was 48DegC!!!)

    Cheers
