for the rover v8 theres 2 plugs and the main power lead to the starter motor that you have to undo instead of cocking around disentangling the whole loom

looking at it from the flywheel the left hand side gets the 4 left injectors, dizzy, coil, MAF, AFM, Idle air bypass, temp sensors and the right hand side gets the 4 right injectors, the alternator wiring, the starter control, AC, low oil pressure.

the leads from that lot are nice and short from the back of the engine, the rest of the harness you get to make yourself

No, the point of the ready made loom, is to have it set up so a novice can do it, no need to attack the loom, just make a nice interface, with pretty plugs, exactly as you buy, but a better fit and generally wired in a more pragmatic fashion
