Thread: BA Pressurize crank case What is the likey cause

Reminds me of the discussion I had this morning with a potential customer.

I will never again put a BA/BF on a mixer system, they all need injection to prevent back fires. BA electrics/coils are crap on gas.

First place to look at is the PCV valve, is it connected and working? Down the back, made of plastic, hose feeds into the bottom of the throttle body.

Then possibly a broken compression ring, do a compression check.

Thanks mate, The PCV valve works, just last week it wouldn't start either on petrol nor Gas. I bulled half the care apert, the petrol pump was not getting power, the pump was ok. I ended up finding that at the inertia cut off switch there was 12 volt power for only a couple of seconds, then found the GAS relays and computer thingo.
There were 2 relays , a fuel trim thing? this had crank, cold start and hot start settings on a dial, then there was the other black box with about 4 wires going to it, the switch over?
When ignition power was supplied it switch over black box thing only clicked on for a couple of seconds. I got the car running on petrol by sourcing power directly for an assessory wire that came on at ignition on and it supplied power to the petrol pump and I got it running.
I was in the process of working my way through it and then this other hurdle with the oil leak appeared

Sounds like the Impco system controller is dying. I had one on a factory LPG on a Rodeo go funny on me, in the end I worked out which wires controlled starter operation and jumped them together. Probably the same for the fuel pump. New cost was over $300, hotwire was effective.

I have a BF factory gas.the original contertor is not the greatest but i wouldnt think impco would suit.I had a few early AU with no air boxes.

if you have the dip stick out it spits out oil but not that much.
if the pcv is good then it will suck or pulse with the oil cap off.

the workshop FG has oil leaks from under the top cover that sprayed oil all over.

get a gas air cleaner-they use spring loaded screws to allow for the backfire-and a different air cleaner that shouldnt catch fire.

Well have said before the PCV was ok, I just rechecked it and there is no suction, I pulled the Valve of and still no suction, I removed the hose and still no suction. The pcv goes through the plasitic cover at the rear of the engine, The in the picture above it ends up at the L bend hose just new the throttle intake on the top of the motor, removing that L bend hose, and putting my finger on to the hole indicates nor suction, revs of engine don't increase like when it sucks air.
I haven't worked out yet what the hole goes to, looking at the top of the motor it just looks like it's going from rocker cover back to rocker cover. since all hoses blew of with the bang, I thought I might have fitted the hoses back incorrectly, but since they are all of different diameters, I can see how I could have refitted them incorrectly.

just had a look on an archival photo of the engine when I asked in LPG section a while back,Where would they hide the fuel switch over solenoid on a BA Falcon?
and am pretty sure that I refitted the hoses that blew off, only difference is the L piece hose I refitted over the throttle, as before it went under and to the pcv.

PCV hose should connect below the throttle body on the plenum, a bugger to get at from memory. There may be a plastic multi hose fitting missing, presumed blown off. Fresh air breather should just run to the clean side of the Impco mixer. Use cable ties (or spring clamps if you can get them) on all vacuum hoses. Ford hoses go loose after 10 years.

Leaks from under top cover, there is muck there to leak, there are colis for each cylinder and a spark plug. And 2 VCT solenoids, no oil coming from there. It's definitely from the dip stick and I pushed the dip stick down and came back to check and it was sitting up higher
