    Isuzu diesel engine ID

Is there an easy way of IDing Isuzu diesels ?. The engine in question is in a boat and the only info I can get from the owner is that it's 4cyl., fairly big and out of an Isuzu truck .

    Thanks in advance,
    Anthony.

I believe the traditional method is to look closely enough at the thing and read the engine type that is cast in big raised letters on the block.

    What he said.

The engine designation will be cast onto the block (RHS?).

If it is a truck engine from 1978-1990 it will be either a 4JB1 (exhaust on RHS) or 4BA1, 4BB1, 4BC1/2, 4BD1, 4BE1. All B engines are the same engine family and have exhaust on LHS.

    Thanks fellers,
Being from the Series 3 then Stage 1 then Discovery fold I was unaware that there was a "traditional way of IDing" an Isuzu motor and that's why I asked. On the upside I now know what to look for when I'm scoping the old girl out in the morning.
