I had a camper years ago,, the only problem was it popped a spark plug .
Had it fixed, got it ready for roadworthy,,, we were to drive up to QLD in it the following day ,,, on the way in for the RWC, got a crack in the windscreen,, so small, but it wouldn't pass. Totally ****ed off, drove the 25klms back home to the farm, half way there, the plug blew out again

Ended up driving up in the old HK Holden.

Its one of those few vehicles that puts a smile on your dial every time you drive it, if it didnt run so good i would think about a suby conversion.

Spotted this at the latest Bright Iconic rod Run.

We had one of those in S. A. When I was a kid. Happy memories.
Main tool? Mum's shoe, used to whack the starter motor when it wouldn't start. Worked every time!
First bro. had a splitty van, which he eventually sold due (iirc) to being unable to afford the upkeep as a youngster. He still pines after it today.

My first car was an opening screen VW pickup. Did not like dusty roads (motor blew up due to overheating when the oil leak spread over the cooling fins caked with dust.) New motor lasted from Longreach to Roma.

Traded it on a Series 1. Maybe I should have kept it. Maybe I should have kept both for that matter (Series 1 traded on a Series 2 a year or two later).

growing up we had mostly vw's, a 1967 split with a british 'devon camper' conversion (like a dormobile basically) this was a daily for the family. 2 beetles, a 1963 and a 1967, and later a mint 1969 1500 that we should've kept .

the van ventured around wa a lot, kalgoorlie, leonora, eastern goldfields etc on fossicking expeditions, and the southwest as far east as esperance i think, as we spent many school holidays in denmark and albany.

the kombi was the first vehicle i ever serviced/ worked on, tappet adjustments and oils etc were done every 3000miles


yes, i still wish we had the van
