    low oil pressure

HI all. My work vehicle is a 93 model hilux diesel with 283 thousand KS on the clock. I am noticing a drop off in oil pressure to about 1/4 gauge where it runs at around 1/2 gauge. There is no valve rattle at idle so I am assuming possible big end bearings. What are your thoughts and should I start to think rebuild? .vehicle is 2.8l with after market turbo. Jim

Should be able to replace big end bearings from underneath, Toyota parts are expensive, so a bearing change should help oil pressure, put a new oil pump in while the bottom is open, Regards Frank.

Try the next grade up of oil,it will help during hot weather.Being a bit thicker it should help increase the oil pressure.
May give you extra time to save up for the bearings if coin is a bit tight.

yes, suspect the big ends and mains.

with the 3L engines, at 283K unless it has had exemplary servicing every 5000km it will be time for shells.

both the 3L and 5L suffer this fate. if you get to 10,000km between changes without a bearing failure ring these guys. Guinness World Records - Officially Amazing - Home of Record Breaking

Assuming there is wear, do I need to fit undersized bearings? Should I measure surfaces and adjust for wear? Or would standard bearings do?

Most bearing Oversizes are in the 10/20/30thou." oversize so if your bearings are worn it would be unlikely that the crank journals have worn to one of these oversizes, so usually you can fit the same size bearing shells that you removed. I have heard some bearing makers do make 1 or 2 thou." oversize, so you should make enquiries there, but if you replace your worn shells with the same size new shells it should help your low oil pressure, though not as much if you replaced Mains as well, Regards Frank.
