Vt190 Cummins diesel in sump

Not up your way sorry, I know a guy in Melbourne that could do it, but it wouldn't be a cheap excersize unless you had a good condition engine ready to go - the guy I know is very particular about how he does his work - no shortcuts, so he would be reluctant to bung in an unknown condition engine but could probably source something or rebuild something - a rebuild on one of these old V8 diesels is VERY expensive - around the same price as doing a C15 or Signature. Is retiring the old truck an option and buying a half decent second hand one that is in good running order? Would be far cheaper to do this if you can't swing the spanners yourself.

Most conversions (assuming the engine will bolt up to the existing gearbox - probably easy enough to find the right engine adaptor) are going to require new engine mounts, radiator inlet and outlets may be different, if you aren't currently running an after cooler, then that will need to go in, etc. wiring loom to the engine will be different, sump clearance over the front axle will need to be looked at, length of the engine to the radiator - gearbox may need moving, so new gearbox mounts, tail shafts, etc. No conversion will be a straight forward bolt in, there will always be something to do. The bonus of doing one to a truck is that there is generally always a way of sorting things out, but again, if you aren't swinging the spanners it's going to cost you.

Easiest way of checking is to find another Acco of similar vintage already running the engine you have in mind, then going from there.

Have you looked at/considered a 6Bt? 5.9litre, and anywhere from 130hp to 350hp reliably.. Maybe too small but worth a look.. :)

Good thought, but it's bigger brother - the 8.3 litre 6CT would Probably be better suited - they were used in the ACCO's for years up until the ISC - the electronic version - was introduced back in 2000 and something - 06 maybe, can't remember exactly.

What's your budget for a replacement?

I hadn't realised Cummins had built a V6.. It'd be a similar size to the V6 Merc engine in my truck.

The VT190 is a V8, similar in design to the 555 and 903.

Short stroke - 3.75" and a bore of 4.625". The 555 took the stroke to 4.125" while keeping the same bore size. The 903 has a larger bore and stroke at 5.5 x 4.75"

All very old engines now, depending on budget there are much better alternatives unless the owner wants to keep it original for some reason. Back in the late 90's the upfit bay at Cummins in Campbellfield was humming to the sound of those old V8's being dropped in the scrap bin for more modern variants. Those days are long gone now, but it used to be commonplace to upgrade the engine your truck.

Just another sign of our throwaway society. Some modern trucks are absolute travesties and start to fall apart only a few years after purchase. Did someone say 'Argosy'...? ;)

Don't bother with the Perkins. Go the 6CT8.3 if you have to repower it. 10spd box and your almost done.
Personally I don't think it's financially viable and would suggest you buy an Account E or G model 2350 if you like the Acco.
