    Kubota 3250 pto clutch stuck?

G'day all, My tractor has a double clutch , but the PTO clutch doesn't work, and never has in the 10 years or so that I've owned it. A bit of googling suggests it's rusted together. Is there any way to adjust things while still together in order to unstick it, or is it a splitting job, and if so, how difficult/technical is that? And does anyone have clues as to where I can get a workshop manual for this tractor?

Don't know about Kubota mate, but many years ago this was a known problem with MF tractors, at one time done under warranty with new units in fact.

It is definitely a splitting job as the pto clutch plate is most probably seized on the splined shaft. It was not a big job with MF tractors as the bell housing splits from the engine readily. Just support both "halves" with some form of rolling support on either half, undo the housing bolts and roll it apart to gain access to the clutch. Dismantle the clutch, clean up the splined shaft and make sure the plates slide freely on the splines before reassembly. I used to VERY lightly lube the splines, but be careful not to apply too much as any excess will be spun out onto the clutch plate lining. All of this is of course assuming your tractor has a "dry" clutch!

Leave it with me. I'll get onto Kubota DOL tomorrow and see what I can find re your tractor. As Old Farang said dry plate clutches do stick if not used.. Moisture on the disks then dries/rusts and the friction disk sticks to the flywheel. Sometimes an hour on the dyno with the clutch depressed fully will free them up. I'll see what I can find on the system for an L3250 and go from there.

    G`day ,

    L2250 , L2550 , L2850 and L3250 are grouped on the one manual .

I know almost nothing about kubotas but some machines will have an inspection plate on the bell housing and some even allow clutch finger adjustment but as i understand the pto plate is on the other side of the fingers .

The 2 plates have a different number of splines and different OD for the splines , i.e. one hole is bigger than the other .

Link for L3200 will give a good idea could even be the same for your concern .

When I worked in the industry, we used anti seize on every clutch spline ever done in the workshop.

I hope that it is Ok to post the following link. It is in the US I think, so no competition.

    L2850 dual stage clutch adjustment?

It would appear that the issue is quite common. As posted, I have no experience with Kubota, but MF have 2 separate concentric splined shafts with what they used to call "live pto". Your tractor looks like it has quite a bit of metal work panels that would have to be removed before splitting the unit.

I also consulted the local tractor bloke who suggested I make certain the clutch was properly adjusted before splitting it. I found the adjustment procedure in the owners manual. I went through the procedure and hey presto the PTO clutch works!
Thanks to everyone who replied. I wasn't looking forward splitting the tractor.
