    Identifying Chev. V8's

I am sure there are Aulrovians who like to play with proper man size engines.

Here is a link to a site with lots of identifying information on Chev. V8's.

    NastyZ28.com

    That link does not work.

    Try this one.

Poor old Rangieman. Can't recognise a good thing.

Small block Chevs first produced in 1955 as a 265 and still in production. Most produced auto engine ever, most successful racing engine ever. Been built in swept capacity from 220 to 427 cubic inches. Aluminium or cast iron heads, aluminium or cast iron blocks, special grades of iron for heavy duty or racing. Several bore sizes and strokes. Used in industrial, auto, light and medium trucks, marine, aircraft (yes, aircraft), portable and fixed stationary engines. There were even some made for pumping gas pipelines where one bank drove and the other bank pumped.

At peak production 70,000 per week were being made. In 1962 Chev division made and sold over 1,200,000 Impalas alone all of which were V8's.

The interesting statistic that came out of that was 70,000 a week production !

I was was reading a statistic that in India 48,000 motorcycles are sold every day , Royal Enfield can not keep up with demand - they are only one manufacturer.
no wonder Harley Davidson Have a factory in Chennai ( Im fairly sure ) the flip side is Trumps trade war could signal the start of full scale off shore manufacturing for vehicles - cars n bikes .

i thinkit could be said that the days of large scale manufacturing in so called first world countries is about to shift .

spoken as someone who works in selling to manufacture in Australia , its a challenging market.

And that 70,000 was just the Chev. small block. Every division of GM had its own engines then, V8's plus 4's, 6's, and 12's (GMC Truck & Coach). The Buick V6 was made in very large numbers also. Add in Chrysler, Ford, and the smaller makers and think what "mass production" really means. For a long time Cadillac claimed to be the only mass producer of luxury cars. Every other luxo maker was a cottage industry in comparison.
