Is the vinyl wrap off-road scratch resistant?
My only experience with vinyl wrapping is with rally cars but from what I’ve seen the protection would be marginal. It would easily protect against the little scratches that mark the clear coat but are easily polished out. However anything that would properly scratch the paint would most likely tear the vinyl and still dig in to the paint. It also doesn’t offer much protection against stone chips. It would slow them down but I would bet one run down something like the Birdsville track would see the rear wheel arches on a D4 looking pretty ordinary.Quote:

If you did it purely for protection I don’t think wrapping would be worth the expense. Ballpark figure for a vinyl wrap would be around $5k depending on what you do. Although the Disco has a lot of glass the panels are still pretty big. Also a big part of the cost of wrapping is the labour. To do it properly you need to pull things like indicators and trim off to wrap the vinyl underneath them which all takes time. Not doing a decent job on a Disco would just look terrible.

Here’s a pic of the logo that’s on my BB panels, I grabbed the first panel that fits the rear of the car from the packaging which belongs to the right side of the car but I couldn’t take a pic there as I parked pretty close to the side of my house but you get the idea.
Much smaller than the previous pic on this thread but the company is still fine tuning the product. For what it’s worth it sticks really well to the car, no way it’s going to move unless you peal it of yourself. The colour seems too “orange ” to me but I guess I can live with it.
I’ve been waiting for Rhinohide to release a compatible model for D4, and been waiting a long time. Glad bushbarier make something similar, it’s worth some consideration, thanks for sharing.
You need to research abi more guys. I had mine wrapped in 2010 from almost new.
Two points to make -
One post in here was from a guy skeptical of how robust the film is without providing any facts.
Second is you are talking about paint protection not a full wrap. If you use clear film you DON'T need to remove tail lights etc. I only covered mine up to the window sills. In hind sight I'd do the pillars and the first 500mm above the windscreen That's the bit that cops it worst.
Mine cost $1600 - admittedly at a slight discount (I was Ops Mgr for 3M) 9 years ago. A colour wrap is a different story.
I am selling the car and pulled the film off two weeks back. No scratches or damage to the paint but geez the film's a different story. I have subjected the poor girl to some nasty tracks.
You can see the nasty scratches on the film, but none on the paint. Themarks on the paint are bits of adhesive which I peeled off later.
It's not everbody's cuppa tea but I wanted to be able to knock the car around in the bush.
I reckon I'll get my $1600 back.

Wow Drowell that is a huge difference and I noticed your other post with pics and the paint looks like new!
Does the protection wrap polish or buff up well if you wanted to?
Old thread I know, but these things will save your paint. No question. a bit of “shield n peel” on the arches and bonnet and you’re good to go. I just did nearly 3 weeks in Tassie west coast. The other two vehicles are absolutely trashed. I have some minor scratches where the protection didn’t cover.

I have now used them on more than half a dozen two week or longer trips. I put them on at home before I leave. Always washed first, then waxed. I have noticed stuff getting behind the magnets, but it makes absolutely no difference to my paint. Even if after a very long period of time there is some marring I am still okay with that after looking at all my mates cars which get absolutely trashed. I haven’t lost any panels due to high winds and high speeds yet, but the leading edge of some of the panels which I think could come off, I have run a strip of black electrical tape. Getting it wrapped could be a good idea, but when the rap gets scratched, it stays scratched until you remove the wrap. I get to remove my scratched panels when I get home. Each to their own I guess, but this is my preferred method.Quote:
