I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

All this shows is that 99% of your rough, tough, go anywhere, blinged up 4x4s aren't fit for the purpose the advertising would have you believe.
    Tsk, who would have thought?

And to throw something else in there, for those that operate businesses, vehicles can be bought with no LCT,GVM upgrade pre rego, then classed as commercial vehicles,so a nice tax break.
    Possibly only in Qld.

Yep, it seems that there are only a couple of solutions:

Don't take all the crap that you think you need when touring and stay within the GVM (often pretty difficult from my experience having done a 2 week Simpson/Hay river trip with two kids).

Buy a Defender 130, unfortunately there's not much else out there that suits although the 70 series Toyotas aren't too bad, and not very much in the modern wagon market, the new Defender is better than most at around 800KG and the Patrol is about 750.

It is obviously a problem though as Toyota have a web page dedicated to knowing your GVM two clicks away from their front page. Toyota Genuine Accessories Payload | Toyota Australia
