Careful. You don’t want ANY tyre over 5 yr old.
So no buying old ones!
Guys...
Just looking around for options in getting a spare set of tyres. I'm looking at a high profile tyre (skinny) with an A/T to M/T tread pattern. I've come to realise that the base model 70's come out in a 225/95/16 size tyre and it got me thinking that most owners would swap out these tyres for a wider tyre, so maybe there maybe an option to pick up a set for a good price...
I use to run the Dunlop Road Gripper on my old Hilux years and years ago and they were a great durable tyre back then... not sure about now though. Back then the ones to get were the ones made in Japan, not the ones made in Australia for some reason...
So, just wondering what people's experiences are with this "specific size" tyre? I know Bridgestone 697's are another brand out there as well
How will a 300Tdi Defender run with this size tyre?

Rob,
There is a current thread in the Series section titled "Tyres" started by Whitehillbilly about these tyres.

Interesting comment...............
Tyre manufacturers have a 'recommended life' for their tyres.
Partly for safety reasons, partly to reduce liability and partly, no doubt, to increase sales.
The roadworthy in VIC doesn't include tyre age.
My daily driver wears out tyres in 2-3 years so no problem there.
My Club Permit vehicles (5 soon to be 6) do few kms so if I took your advice I'd be up for a set of new tyres roughly every 10 months or so and throwing away tyres with very little if any wear.
Being all Land Rovers I could of course have one good set of tyres I replaced every 5 years and move them onto the vehicle I was using that particular weekend.
Compounds do go 'off' and I'm sure cheap tyres do degrade quickly.
Each to their own.

I've had the same tyres on my trailer (9x6 dual axle) for about 12 years, and they were 2nd hand when I got them!
I was actually just looking at them the other day, and thinking about hunting up some more used ones.
Doesn't do a lot of miles, but the ones it does do are often rather heavy!
Only maintenance they get is pressure checked and adjusted for loads.

I've also had tyres that are 10yrs or so old but I think its more also that no matter how old the tyres are is that u check out the condition of your tyres - look for bulges; cracks, etc and then if u find that, then I would be replacing them
Old tyres also blow / delaminate/ fail without warning.
So if you want to risk your Pride & Toys go for it, I’m not going to stop you.
I’ve seen many instances of old tyres failing and the subsequent damage makes the tyre price insignificant.
Personally - even when not used / worn - my tyres get replaced.
Old tyres....hmmmm. My 6x4 trailer has two recaps fitted. Virtually unworn and they're only 30 years old. They don't do much work, one yearly outing to the less than one km away tip.
