Oil Gurus / Farmers :- advice needed.

    hi folks.
i got conned into rebuilding my next door neighbours drum mower. its an old " Deutz Fahr KM 22 " he bounced it off a few rocks etc .
parts ordered from uk. etc and rebuilt.

searching web results in " EP 00 " as the grease / oil of choice ??? "EP " = extreme pressure. "00 " viscosity ( grease that flows like syrup ) ???

not on shelf of your local auto store . any ideas. ?? given the fact that the machinery in question should be " garden art " i don't want to spend $$$$ .

can i make my own brew ?? 80w90 plus ????

    thanks for any info.

    pete .

    Mower

    G’day Pete,

i presume it it is just a simple gearbox transferring power from P.T.O. to the belt drive,

so any oil suitable for final drives on tractors would do,

    So yup,,make your own.

Make sure the breather is open.

    thanks for the reply.
if you google " Deutz KM22 " you'll get a pic of similiar machines. problem area is the section above the drum mowers. its a bath shaped area filled with " EP 00 " . its where belt drive input is transfered to horizontal shaft , and then through gears into vertical shaft etc.
hope i explained that correctly ???

the little oil that was in it was like treacle and water contaminated.

info i found on U.S. farming forums suggests that any " thin " auto oil will just work its way down and drain away.

NLGI 00 greases are available but often it's an order in item.
And most all blenders make 00 greases, e.g. Penrite label theirs a 'Semi Fluid' grease.

FWIW Land Rover 'One Shot' swivel grease is an NLGI 00 grease with 3% MOS2, satisfying an EP requirement, but it's only usually availabe in 400-500ml sachets

    CV grease.

roughly 50% grease and 50%80/90 mineral gear oil will yield about the right consistency
