    1949 Austin A70 Tyre Size

    Hello All,

    Any of you veteran English non-Land Rover car buffs know what the tyre size for the rear differential in a utility tub would be? I bought a tub that was converted to a trailer - possibly using the original chassis. One tyre is literally in shreds. The other tyre is so perished and cracked I cannot see any markings other than perish marks and cracks.

    Given the missing information I could then start a quest for tracking down a pair of tyres.

    Your assistance will be most gratefully appreciated!

    I'd take a WAG and say 5.00 or 5.50 x 16 (possibly 15").
    If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    From the scribble of my Father's,it is 16",looks like he has also written 175,whatever that means.
    HArd to see exactly.what is written.

    Hmm,maybe,but maybe not as costs are in another column in what is left of the deteriorated notebook.

    There were some numbers about a tube as well,but i gave up,it was written in the 50's.

    Found some more great slides of the LR in my sig,once i get them scanned i will post them up.

    Not so much logic. It is more of a case of needing to do more research into how tyre sizes get measured! Find something marked in things called inches and feet. Then work where on the wheel to do the required measurements. Then if I find the measurements in both Imperial and Metric by finding a conversion table.... and...

    Apart from asking on this forum and seek assistance from people who were familiar with that era ... my next option was to take the wheel off and visit my local tyre place and asking about their ability to supply and fit two of these? Plonk place wheel on their counter ....

    Oh, some places even have signs stating that tyres should not be brought into their office and they should stay outside.
