    dusty environments.
    Lots of towing

My belts were done at 98,000km and will be done again next year.
What I did not realise is the timing belt cover has a large inspection hole at the bottom (at least mine does). Dusty conditions, or lots of water crossings and the timing belt would be getting a hard life.

when i first got the vehicle i dropped the oil and filter even though it wasn't due and filled it with Penrite HPR 5 5w-40 as that is what i determined i would prefer to run in it knowing the tdv6's history in AU and i fitted a mann oil filter.

I generally run CEM FTC Decarbonizer in the fuel of my diesel engines and the territory will be no exception as they have known egr issues, and the FTC seems to sort that out nicely going by past experience.

Added the double dose with the first two fills and am back onto the standard dose now and the engine definitely runs a tad sweeter than it did when i picked it up

no difference in economy and it is still averaging in the late 7s / 100k

    very impressed with the thing

I've read about the egr issues and wonder if in some way it's down to driving style. We've had no problems so far (touch wood) with either vehicle.

I run them on business for 5 years where it gets long runs 5 days per week, then my wife gets it and it ends up on the school run so lots of short trips.

The fact that there isn't a particulate filter helps with the economy but you'll find that after a long fast run you'll enter a slower area, pull away from a junction at normal speed and leave a 'James Bond' smoke screen.

I'm dreading the next vehicle which will either have a particulate filter or AdBlue.

yeah, diesels with short runs and long idle periods tend to glaze the bore, build up carbon in all the nooks and crannys and the ftc stops that happening without having to pull heavy loads on a regular basis to burn it off

you don't need the stuff if you do regular heavy loads in my experience

You would think a simple fix would be a screw in bung.

Just replaced a front wheel bearing on mine, I had one done under warranty and now at 153,000km.
The other two Territories went to over 200,000 without issue, maybe cost cutting on the runout model ?

Easy fix, you typically buy the hub c/w bearing. You do need a 36mm socket and a big breaker bar though.

My young bloke got the hub for me at trade for $75. On Ebay you can get two, delivered, for about $45 ! I wonder how long they would last ?

Yes but i guess if you got a an oil leak the cover could potentially fill with oil until the bottom pulley is covered with oil, then the belt slips and its good night Irene for the motor.

Probably just needs a simple one way valve - like on the air filter.
