Which makes the claim for why they derated the TDV6 to meet more stringent emission rules total BS in my opinion.

They only need to detune for the European market if this is legit.

What the SD does do is dodges NVES,so they can sell as many as they want and won't be affected by the emissions crap rules.
Which will help the manufacturer, particularly as their main seller is the Ranger, which is not that great emissions wise,as the biggest seller is the old TDV6.

Yes i laugh when i see headlines that it is a game changer as well.

Same when a manufacturer comes out and says this new engine now has a timing chain(replacing a wet belt) and different injectors so it is more robust....

Owning up to the fact the WB was a disaster, which it was.
Stop spoiling a good story with facts

Done to try to increase reliability and longevity, which manufacturers have been doing for decades on some commercial models.

The SD is dragging a lot more weight around even empty, than a standard Ranger.

The very latest Hi Ace is still like that, the 1GR has less power and torque than the same engine in other models such as Hi Lux,Prado, etc, they did the same with the 1 KD.
Agreed. My guess is the Ford Australia Engineers are nervous about this engine but really have no other choice for a diesel. They are definitely taking a leaf out of the Toyota book for how to achieve reliability.

The F-150 with the 3.0 TDV6 wasn’t very popular and wasn’t seen as being good for towing (despite having the higher power rating).

The 3.5L twin-turbo V6 Petrol would be a good alternative for the recreational market. More power and more torque.

I wish Ford success with the Ranger Super Duty and hope they do look to bring out a “hero” truck with decent power and torque for the recreational market.

Weighed one of our Tojo work utes today, with driver, just the gear it carries all day,not extra gear for a job.

40Kg under for rear axle,120Kg under GVM.Front axle is fine.

Hmm not much spare.Surprisingly only slightly down at rear.

I wonder if anyone has actually tested the SD loaded and close to GVM?

It would be interesting to see if it is almost on it's rear bump stops, like standard Rangers are when loaded close to GVM,without upgrades.

I think Ford are well aware of the overloading problem, as I know a company of fitters that got Rangers, when they went for the first service the dealer said they'd need GVM upgrades.

Your work cars are probably newer.. but a mate has a 2011 Hilux. He had it set up with a canopy and a light layout in the back. With his bullbar and wheel carrier on the back but empty (but full fuel) he had like 200kg spare at the back and enough front load for a 70kg driver. No passengers. Had to get a GVM upgrade but even then he's had to remove some stuff.

Our work Rangers are just under GVM,but they are very softly sprung,so they ride well for the motoring jurnos, and those that drive them around empty.
We had to fit after market HD springs to them as they were 10mm off the bump stops.

Well, the full story, we had one of them fitted with Ford factory fitted HD springs which did nothing, sagged same as the other.
Long story short Ford admitted they only changed the shocks, spring pack was not changed,so with push and shove we got our money back.
    Just a rip off.

Meanwhile, the Tojo at almost GVM doesn't need HD springs,so rides slightly worse unloaded.

Cadogon has another vid on the topic, that is for those that can put up with him.
He does have some good facts about the vehicle though.
