Paul/Andy - Where's the snorkel?
If I was ever reluctant to buy a snorkel, that was changed yesterday!!
Took a newby 4x4ing. He has a Hilux with bars, snorkel and such. So we went down to the sand area at Shoalhaven river rest area near Braidwood.
We go down onto the river bed, drive through the sand and find a few water crossings. Got out and checked each one before leading him through. All were only about hub height deep except for one large one that was indeterminable, but definetly not for me, it had a chicken track around it, so we used that.
So we go through all these crossings as far as we could, without getting his new truck horribly scratched.
We turned around and started back. My wife, and chief photographer, got out to take some movies of us doing these crossings.
So, I'm leading and off I go ... STRAIGHT INTO THE CROSSING THAT WAS DEFINETLY TOO DEEP.
Bonnet goes completly under water... I scream.... then floor it. V8 still has some air at the moment, and luckily the hole was only very short and I managed to get out alive!!
My newby went through, smug with HIS SNORKEL!!
So, hurry up Paul/Andrew!!!
Although I'm experienced enough to know what my car can and cannot do, I'm not bright enough to remember where I've been after 10 minutes!!!
Spy pics of the next snorkel!
some prototyping of the next snorkel for your edification
Basic design showing smooth lines that compliment the wheel arch of the Rangie, with clever no-drilling-required mounts. Notice how the RH mount doesn't obstruct your view to the LH side of the vehicle anymore.

Now I know you'd love to throw all your hard-earned at me, but you'll have to be patient as we work out a few minor "issues" ;)
Cheers, Paul.
