    Crank position sensor

Are there 2 different types of crank sensors for a pre 99 p38? I got one from Karkraft, told them it was for a 97 p38 and its different to the one on the car. the one on it has a plug the wires plug onto, the one i got from them has wires coming off it and a plug on the end of them.

Vern I have no idea if they are interchangeable but it appears there are two types for the same years. This I can only deduce from online sellers and the pictures of the part. Maybe a trip to the Stealers with Vin number would help answer your question.

Please let us know what you find out. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is curious.

I know that 4.0 to 4.6 are different slightly and that the mountings in the block are very different. The 4.0 has two posts while the 4.6 has two threaded holes. Also the angle the sensor is mounted on is diffferent pointing to two different flex plates.

When I swapped the disco to a 4.6 I had to change the mount back to the 4.0 and alter the mounting angle to match the original so the sensor didn't foul in the flex plate grove.

Th sensor that was on the 4.6 was different to the 4.0 both in plugs, mountings, sensor pin length and angle. But the 4.0 after fitting the 4.0 plate to original spec was fine. Could be a 4.0 that you got?
