Vern, I know I bang on about getting parts from the UK but that e-bay link to the correct part was 48 pounds, around A$84. You should be able to get them to deduct the VAT, 20% and ask for a price on Royal Mail small packet shipping, its normally very affordable on items less than a kilo. Takes about a week to get here, I have had parts arrive in 4 days from ordering. Rockauto.com in the states is also a great option on many parts for all cars

HELP REQUIRED: New block-different sensor mounts

    Hey there guys,
I recently bought a new block to replace the sauteed one that i have in my p38 1998,
On my old motor i have the white plug sensor with two bolts that screw into the housing.
On the new motor it has two studs sticking out and looks to be in a different position?

Do i need to remove these studs or drill a new hole for it?

Ok ok i got to the bottom of it!!!

The mounting plates are different for each type of sensor. The white plug sensor ( the one with the two bolt holes) sits close to the bottom edge off to the left a little. The hole for the sensor is 40mm up from the top of the sump and 80mm in from edge of the end of the crankshaft. The other mounting plate ( i think it is for the blue sensor) still sits 40mm up from the sump but is about 90-100mm out from the edge of the end of the crankshaft and has two threaded stud protruding from the external side of it.

    SO..........................

If you have one on one block and one on the other and need to change them, you will first need to cut both plates off the two spot welds and swap them then re-weld the new mounting plate to the block.

in the photo i tried to fit the old sensor to the new block and well you can see what happened

just remove the whole round alloy plate by cutting the tack welds. remove the offset role pin from the block you plan to use, fit the plate using bearing grade loctite and a screw where the role pin used to be. (may require a shim on the screw between the block and plate to keep it square)

** Sounds great ** I might put another bolt or screw in it somehow to stop it from accidently moving and trashing my crank angle sensor ( had this happen once before and it was shocking)

    Cheers thanks for the tip
