I wonder if that's a typo or if possibly this one is a complete lemon that each owner has got rid of in less than 2 yrs.
Id probably still buy it though lol.
A 98 model for $6.5k AUD, another $5k (?) to ship it out here, and another grand or so for rego... so for less than $13k you've got something that I dare say nobody else in Aus has?
Is it worth it? Dunno, I like all the gadgets of course and the colour is nice (maybe my screen, but looks like Oxford Blue to me, not green), I could even live with the cream interior.
Unless the stick-on chrome strips and different bonnet/tailgate lettering are part of the 50th Anniversary package, I'd be a bit worried.
Love the drop-down tables in the rear... reminds me of my Dad's old MkIII Jag and Humber SuperSnipe.
The Sat-Nav is probably more trouble than it is worth, but presents an opportunity to replace it with a similar sized newer unit.

Number of owners is supplied by the DVLA. It is part of the normal information that is made available here when selling a car. A vehicle with so many owners will be difficult to shift. There will also be significant buyer resistance to the mileage as it has gone over the magic 100k. To make this one sell it really needs £2k spent on an LPG system. Although if that were done would not need to sell as MPG would then be OK.
Depends on which state you are shipping to - In SA there would be no compliance issues as car was already sold here. It just needs a VIN check before registering. This is possibly different for other states.
AFAIK Personal imports do not need to have any proof of prior ownership, but you are liable to pay GST on it, as well as covering fees for customs etc. From memory you are allowed one personal import per year. Tourist imports are different however - but these are only valid for one year - then the vehicle has to be shipped out of the country.
I shipped my car and scooter out here when I moved from the UK a few years ago. It was pretty straight forward, you just need to sort out a VIA (Vehicle import approval) prior to shipping - you can do it all online.

Only issue with UK cars (being a POM I speak from experience) is the weather is not kind to them - rust being the major issue. Not sure how p38's fare, but some cars will be like Swiss cheese after 10 years.
I am from England, London and I also have imported a car. If you bring in a car as a personal import having owned it abroad the regulations arnt so strict.
If you have not owned the car abroad my understanding is they hit you with KPH reading only on speedo, child saftey seat anchors, non convex mirror glass, full quaranteen clean and inspection and inspection to meet Australian compliance to get plate all plus GST . All costs totalled inc insurance shipping etc to work out the import duties.
You need to be bringing in something pretty exotic to make it worth while.
If the rules have changed I will be having a good look at bringing over a car a year, a L322 RR Vouge V8 diesel will be 1st.
I agree with the rust issue, the P38 in question lives in the lake district, the wettest part of the UK
Letter of Compliance - Part 9 on Application Form
Dealers and distributors do not have authority to sign a Letter of Compliance. A Letter will only be issued by the manufacturer where a vehicle was originally built to Australian specifications (ie to comply with the Australian Design Rules).
A Letter of Compliance states that a vehicle complies with the applicable ADRs at the time of the vehicle's original build date. Only the authorised Australian representative of the manufacturer, or the organisation holding the Plate Approval for the particular vehicle model, can issue a Letter of Compliance for the vehicle you intend to import. It is therefore only in exceptional circumstances that a Letter of Compliance can be obtained.
You are only permitted to import 1 vehicle in a 12 month period under these arrangements.
The plate is supplied by the Administrator for affixing to the vehicle before registration in your State or Territory. There is a charge for the supply of this plate by the authorised plate engraver.
Details of companies that have approval to place identification plates on new vehicle and therefore are permitted to issue a Letter of Compliance are available from the Road Vehicle Certification Scheme / Vehicle/RVD Search
If the vehicle is pre-1989 you can do as many as you want with out having owned it for 12 months in UK. Compliancing is only a large cost as I understand, for the newer vehicles... I will be doing one soon so will post up my experience. It doesn't help for P38's though so I've switched brands for my 'guinea pig'.![]()
