    Lightbulb Traction Control

I am let to believe that if you update the earlier model rear wheel traction control computer with a MY99 onwards you will get 4 wheel traction control.

Can anyone confirm or deny this for me???

The brake booster (valve block) is different. Dunno if that matters. Russell Botha (HSE30) may know.

Don't forget the stronger 4-pin diff in the front with 4-wheel TC.

I'd be really surprised if you could swap ABS/TC ECU's between pre and post 99 models.

Pre MY99 models had the Wabco C Type 1 ABS/ETC ECU and MY99-on had the Wabco D Type 1 ECU. The C had a single connector and the D had 3 connectors.

As Ron suggests, Russell will know for sure.

    Cheers, Paul.

the connections for the valves and earths change positions in the valve block/modulator connector. i have seen the 99 modulator on 95 car, which makes for very interesting braking. as soon as one wheel locks all the brakes come on full no matter what you do with the pedal.

This is the problem Barney Roveable was having. I suggested to him that it might be due to the wrong modulator (his '95 had one from a '99 model).

The computer is totally different shape (and plug) too. They are both wabco, but ones a large silver box, and the later is a small black one (similar but not the same as a D2). It would be less hassle and cheaper to throw in a front locker than stuff around with this.

    4 wheel traction control

    Hey guys
I heard a whisper that you can change just the ECU over but then you have to change a whole bunch of other things, which would make it unviable to do so.

My suggestion: get a few of you together and buy a whole heap of lockers and get a discount, I havent used my TC for ages now, just because at the flick of a switch i get locked.....

    Just a thought

Does the fitment of lockers (front/rear) have any effect on the traction control of post 99 rangies?? I wouldn't imagine so as it works of wheel speed sensors, but just putting the question out there!

I cant speak from experience, but I would assume it would have no effect at all. The TC should only kick in once it has detected one wheel slipping. I'm guessing it does this by measuring the speed of each wheel and applying the ABS brake to the one spinning faster than the other. If you had the locker engaged, both wheels would spin at the same speed, so the TC shouldn't kick in. This should be the case for front/rear slip and left/right slip. Essentially, the computer will think that the diff that is locked always has full traction.

Or if you're really lucky and have both front and rear locked, the computer will think that the car has full traction at all 4 paws while locked and happily keep delivering power to the lot. When you unlock, the TC system will work as normal.

    Cheers,
    Keels.
