The tool I use (recommended by LR in the w/s manual) is a crochet hook. I stole it from my wife.
My recently attained 2000 HSE had a serious droop in the drivers corner air spring.
I ripped out the collet and o-rings (very easy to do) and noticed that an oring was broken completely. I went and bought new orings from a hydraulics mob for $2. When I put them in, the leak was much worse than before and the hissing was easily audible from outside the car. I bought them by eye, and bought 6mm x 2mm instead of 6mm x 2.5mm orings!!! Dont make this mistake.
So for posterity - its an easy job, and very cheap too, and now my rig sits even and leak-free all night. Happy.
I bought a EAS bypass kit from HardRange.com and it installed and ready for any stinky problems in the future. At first I was scared of all the tee pieces and extra connections, but the exercise gave me a lot more confidence working with the EAS system (at least the pnuematic side of it).
The attached pic shows the broken oring and also the simple tool i fashioned from a coat hanger wire to remove the orings. I used sandpaper to smooth the point to minimise damage to the valve block opening.
