Sport Mode ... the forgotten feature

I have to admit that for 99% of the time I drive around without any thought at all for the Sport or normal mode on the transmission.

However, today I drove from Brissy to Sydney, and after getting frustrated with a slightly sluggish performance going up some of the hills, I engaged Sport mode and was pleasantly reminded that it does make a difference.

It kicks down more responsively and holds the lower gear for longer.

So, if you're like me and forget its there most of the time, give Sport mode a go next time you're in hilly country.

It's still hard to beat a P38 for comfort on a long trip. I did the trip solo and enjoyed the drive. I also mad a point of waving to every Land Rover I saw (not a good return rate though).

    Cheers

The first thing I do when I drive the P38 is to hit the Sport button .

I've been meaning to investigate how to bypass the switch so it's on permanantly.

    DITTO!

Fuel consumption is secondary to a more responsive tranny and listening to that lovely V8 wind out a little longer

I'll buy that mod to bypass the switch.

    Cheers, Paul.

I'll be honest, I'm a bit of a granny, so sport mode only comes on when pulled up at the lights next to any V8 cruiser, or when I plan to overtake on the highway!

Once i've got an exhaust on the P38 things will probably change though!

Probabley because most of them were in shock that a 38 luxobarge driver waved at them.

I'm with Keithy. I drive like a granny too. Like keeping my fuel average under 15l/100km around town. Well they are p38s so of course always up for a challenge.....

I start off enthusiastic with the sport button on, but the exhaust drones a lot.... so i end up turning it back off to get the drone too dye down... and around town it kicks back too early and it sounds like your trying to race everyone... You would be surprised how many quick diesels there are around... i took off the other day normally at the lights and a vw toureg diesel thought i was racing him and floored it... i was surprised how quick he disappeared.

I'm told an Aston Martin Vantage does a pretty good job.
On average, a wee bit more expensive though.

I;d probably havea P38 if my head didnt hit the bloody rof on account of the sunroof......

If we could get one on Gas I could probably talk Mrs V into it. So adm333 when you decide to sell yours....
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

it's even more mortifying when cruising up the long inclines in 3rd gear around Guyra on the NE hwy AND being left for dead by a tradie in a diesel Hilux towing a ton of tools ... I need a turbo...something
