thanks for the offer jsp.
Have been tosing up buying a cheapie, or something decent.
Ended up going the cheapie option '95 hse for $4750.
I figure even if its stuffed, I can only loose so much. I think one recently went on ebay for over $2k with blown motor.
Haven't seen it yet, pick it up on the weekend and drive it from newcastle to adelaide - if it makes it that is !!
Weekend after I'm driving it to darwin.
I've been warned about reliability and high fuel economy but I'm willing to give it a go. If it works ok at least it should be confortable.

Peter.
Looking for a towbar for the p38 if anyone has one. As above will be driving, newcastle, sydney, adelaide this weekend so can pickup.
Need something by next weekend.
Good chance that "Andrew e" will have one. He is located in Western Sydney so you will likely be passing though that way.
Send him a PM. He should be back in Sydney by the weekend... I think.
For other who have been trying to call Andy, he broke his mobile a few days ago and is waiting on a replacement screen so can't recover his voicemails, texts or contacts. Call or text me and I'll pass it on to him via "other means".
... and don't bother telling me how you can swap the SIM card to another phone... :wasntme:
Remy and James - your messages have been passed on ;)
Cheers
Paul.
pic's here on ebay of the car i'm picking up.
1995 LANDROVER RANGE ROVER HSE 4x4 WAGON - NXE46Z (eBay item 330532338348 end time 21-Feb-11 15:51:05 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats
Got as far as mittagong before needing a tow.
Amazingly enough it wasn't a mechanical breakdown.
Despite asking multiple times it appears they auction mob did not give the correct permit for moving an unregistered vehicle. $1000 in fines and a car that I can't drive till next week at earliest.
Car seemed to drive ok. Wasn't game to test many things as I just wanted to get home. Temp gauge was just over half.
Faults I noticed already include odo display not lit, radio display stuffed, fuse warning on dash, drivers seat buttons don't work, bonnent release not releasing on left, cruise buttons on steering didn't do anything.
Expected fault of srs light appears to work ok.
Good luck! In my experience the vast majority of the problems these awesome rigs can throw up can be solved with spare change, lots of time, reading, swearing, divorcing, fun this forum and a RAVE manual and a good toolbox.
I reckon I have mine back to 90% showroom functionality, from about 70% when I got it. Every success has been a wonderful satisfaction and I look forward to the last few things, which I understand and am sure I can fix, but I just need a block of time to attack them.
I'm looking forward to fixing the stuff bit by bit. I did a bit of reading up on all the common problems and fixes.
I don't think I'll get them to show room condition, but if I can keep it on the road and fix 1 item at a time I'll be happy.
Looks like a great car for someone that is a bit handy and doesn't mind fiddling.
Not so good a 2nd hand car for someone that only has the main dealer fix everything.
Well I just got back from a 2400k trip to the airshow and the old P38 chugged without a single fault. amazing. Even with the 4 tonnes of locusts stuck to the front.
Car looks clean from the outside, hope you got yourself a nice bargain :)
they are great to drive :)
