Diesel P38

I think I read somewhere that DSE P38's are slow off the mark and sluggish overall.

Understand that diesel has a lot of benefits and I am not being critical, I am just interested to know has anyone driven one back to back with a V8 P38? And also by comparison what is the detectable performance difference?

always better to post a general question in the forum, PM's should only be for private discussions.
anyway, back to the questions, take no notice of the road tests the the Rangie is one of the quietest vehicles i have ever owned or driven (and that is a lot, as a company car driver). the tyre choice will make a big difference to road handling and noise- chunky tread will always be more noisey. with a general all terrain tyre you can have a very quiet relaxed trip,
very little engine noise unless the viscous fan is engaged and certainly not intrusive.
on a run at 100kph the deisel returns about 8.5-9 litres per 100km and with a gentle foot you can achieve 8ltr p/100km. (mine achieves this and has covered 145k miles (234k Km)).

not to happy about members coming to have a look, there are some unsavoury characters around who may be more interested in how quickley they could get it on a trailer without someone seeing them.

the main differences are comparing a pushbike to a car on acceleration and the difference between jogging and sprinting once underway. a diesel will still get you there quicker as it won't need to stop for fuel every 200km.
the performance of a diesel is not to bad if you work it hard, but your driving a large, comfortable and relaxing vehicle; why would you want to boot it about everywhere- go buy a porsche cayenne if you want speed over comfort and substance.;)

If your only getting 200km out of a Petrol P38, then there's something majorly wrong with motor. At least 350km city driving with a 4.6L

minor point, in comparison I get over 800Km per tank

On a leisurely trip BNE-SYD via the Pacific Hwy lightly loaded, no roof racks etc, I can get about 700k between refills...with the Thor 4.6 ...yep the fuel gauge light is on but I've never had to put more than 83L in the tank to the cutoff then trickle 3L close to the brim when going back on the road again straight away esp at night when it's cooler...
But would just lurve a 3L BMW straight 6 diesel!
