Another EAS compressor story
Yesterday morning when I jumped in Ranger Stacey, I noticed that the EAS height light kept flashing and she didnt go up to the normal height. This is a problem for me since I have 32" mudders on which scrub when I do my uturn in my street they scrub on the front mudguards (which I am yet to trim).
I got out a felt the EAS lid, it was clearly 'different' to before. I thought that it may have dropped the conrod or blown a piston seal. The air pressure guage on the MARS EAS bypass system (from PaulP38A at HardRange) showed that the air storage tank pressure was not building even thought the compressor was clearly on.
I used my supercheap auto 1100amp jump starter box with air compressor to manually inflate the air tank to ~100psi and then when I closed the tailgate it came up to normal speed and I drove without a problem.
In the afternoon I cracked open the EAS compressor and I saw that the compressor piston seal was indeed broken. It really is only a 5 minute exercise to open it up to examine. See pictures: https://picasaweb.google.com/1058780...eat=directlink
I believe the main reason is that I have a slow leak in one corner, so it has been working harder than it should. It is another timely reminder to get on top of air leaks and also carry a compressor seal kit if your compressor is on unknown pedigree...
