Second Air Compressor Installation to P38

    Hey guys and gals,

Recently I purchased a second "factory" air compressor for my P38 with intention to have it as a backup unit in case mine kicked the bucket, however it had been sitting a while and I am not one to let things sit and not get used so I decided i'd mount it in the engine bay of my P38 and run it in series with the factory compressor.

Anyone who says there is not enough room to mount it in the engine bay is crazy, I luckily had access to plenty of tough cardboard and a few days off work so I decided to mount the compressor to a plate.

I used 1.6mm zinc steel for the plate (350 x 300) and 3 strips of 1.6mm zinc steel to bend up some mounting brackets.

Being highly trained in the art of backyard mechanics, I used my trusty 4" grinder to cut the notches required from the steel plate after initially making a draft template out of cardboard, then a final template again out of cardboard before I transferred the design over to the steel plate.

My objective was to make it look almost factory, not an eyesaw, and I didnt want it to touch or rub on any wiring looms or EAS lines. So as you'll see in the photo's the plate looks a bit like a space invader, but most certainly does the job!

    Cheers

Looks great Keithy... sadly I wouldn't be able to do this due to the LPG Installation but it does look "Factory"

Nice work, it certainly looks well though out.
I have also recently fitted a second compressor for my rear locker. Its fitted next to the existing EAS Box
Nowhere near as tidy as yours but I did take a couple of pics when fitting it.
I used a plate which I fitted directly to the Shock / Airspring tower. The two holes already in the tower Took an 8mm tap perfectly.
The new compressor has 2 solenoids, one for the locker and the other I will utilize as an EAS backup and tyre inflater

That looks the goods! Had I planned to use the second compressor solely as a tyre inflator I probably would have used the arb compressor too!

I've stuck with the standard compressor for mine! I do envy you though, I love the arb units!

I now have a shed full of bits and pieces of numerous projects ready for completion and I just wish I could get back to this sort of ethic for my pretty pig (P38). Maybe a new years resolution will help!

    Good job too Keithy!

I'm going to start calling you "McGiver" there Keithy. Fair Dinkum innovation at its best. Australia needs more people like you, just don't sell your idea overseas!!!

Good job Keith, I have a second unit as well but wired separately with it own pressure switch and feeding air back into the main tank from the front side as well as being used for tyes etc. It does make a huge difference when the tank gets low.
    Nicely installed!

    Thanks fellas!

All I've got left to do is wire it in! I'm going to run the wiring independent to the factory wiring, except the switch which will run off the eas ecu. I tapped into the air line running through the air dryer (the right one)! Just wondering if I should have put a non return valve with it?

    Cheers
