Torque is developed high in the rev range IIRC. Later versions where 4.4 or 4.5 litre too. The Only problem apart for all the electronics that it is a MONSTER MOTOR very wide. you would need to do a lot of measuring to make sure it would fit first. But I like the idea. Who's going to pull the trigger first.

try this... and I understand it came with a special turbo motor fuel pump to reduce pulsation ...and liquid filled engine mounts ...

I know when my motor finally dies, the 1UZ will be at the top of my conversion list.

    Thanks Hoges

Very interesting. Some years ago looked at putting one in a sprintcar frame. A mate had a full front cut from Japan. He was going to use it in a street machine but time got the better of him.

a quick read of our L322 forum and all is not rosy with the 5HP,,
anything around 400nm will eventually blow it up.
it does have a nice low first to get the van off the line, and 5th is a poofteenth lower(around .9 would be ideal).
When this one stops I might rebuild a 5 instead of the 4. It should all just bolt up,,,

Pedro, check post #11 with the response I got from Ashcrofts... not a good look..TC issues and no reasonable way of controlling the auto box in a P38 /D2 etc

I wonder how long it will be before the 2.7dsl and 6speed auto can be had from a territory...

That in my mind would be the ultimate combination.

FWIW: a thought provoking article from Subaru re. diesel engines vs petrol. Also contains a simple example of cost-benefit comparison of petrol vs diesel.

Benefits Of A Diesel Engine | Subaru Australia

Has implications for high priced European diesel powered luxomobiles which just run back and forth to the shops...

A retrofit diesel/6sp drivetrain is certainly appealing... but on the basis of the above is never going to be financially viable unless you have catastrophic failure of the current petrol setup ...and you can get a 2.7 TDV6 /6 sp replacement at reasonable price AND you can solve the electronic interface issues with the existing BECM... then again perhaps one might swipe the BECM / ABS brake system etc from the Territory as well as all th eother stuff..and ...on and on it goes...by which time RR TDV8s may be appearing at reasonable price

There's 2 versions of every UZ engine. The VVTi engine is wider than the non VVTi unit, but making the VVTi work with anything but either the original ECU, which also requires the security system including the ignition barrel (not functional but plugged in) is a very expensive challenge.

Making VVTi work with aftermarket ECU's requires a big pair as cams are very expensive (and then you need 4) and faith is needed to grind off 2 of the 3 OEM sensor lobes for it.

But a std unit has a pretty high inlet so may have clearance issues.
