P38 rocker adjustment
Having rebuilt my motor (New bearings, pistons, cam, lifters, and rockers and rocker shafts, I still have the left side a little rattly.
With-out adjustments on the rockers or puch rods how can the clearances be closed up????
First thoughts are to machine a few thou off the pedestals!!
Any sensible thoughts / fixes appreciated
Cheers
Jeff

You have to check the clearance between the circlip of the lifter and the socket for the pushrod on all the lifters on the LH side each cylinder at TDC firing.
The clearance should be 20 thou to 50thou. You can check by getting a piece of coathanger, bending a small right angle on each end and filing one end to 20thou and the other to 50 thou.
If under 20 Thou or in your case zero , then take some off the bottom of all of the pedestals.

Phil,
Shorter pedestals is plan B for the moment. I've got plenty of spares of those.
Plan A is a set of adjustable pushrods as per below IF they will or can be made to fit. The description says Buick so I may get lucky!!
Crower 70034-16 - Crower Adjustable Pushrods - Overview - SummitRacing.com
I've ordered a set so will find out next week if they are a workable propositon or not.
Thanks
Jeff

while i was working for a parts supplier a few years ago they had some bad clones of rover rockers and lifters that where niosy, (identical to look at but crap. on some rockers the pads could be turned with finger pressure). there is also a better way up for the push rods (some have quite a large bur where the hemisphere has been pressed, this should go in the lifter). you could also swap some parts to the other bank to see if the noise changes.
