    Craig's Day of Fail

I'm going to post up here. I'm not sure if it will be to seek advice, vent or as a warning to others....

Having bought Keira a coffee machine (2 year wait!), I was feeling a bit smug so went to Watt Comms and got my UHF sorted.

Later in the day, I decided to fit the new cubby lid and deep cup holders that finally arrived from the USA. I also got USA coffee in the dried out form all through it. Seriously, you people don't own a sponge? Fitted all good except it also won't pop up when I press the button. But it's better.

I also decided to pull the transmission cover off and do some cleaning, fit the new handbrake gaiter and put a globe in the cigar lighter.

I've broken the cigar lighter in to a few bits (PLEASE tell me how that bulb comes out!!), the handbrake gaiter MAY stay in place, the new leather cover for the shift knob just won't fit despite the 2 hours I tried convincing it and the message centre has blown ANOTHER bulb - I replaced all three last weekend.

The good news is the plastic weld on the radiator is holding and I have a new replacement radiator for $275 delivered from Northshore Radiators if anyone needs one. It's Tomsun (Thailand) but I think it will be OK.

How the hell do you get that bulb out? Why can't I get the cover on the shifter knob and why is the message centre blown another new bulb!?

I'm not sure what your problem is with the bulb. It's a bog standard 1.2 watt wedgebase bulb. Here's a pic I took earlier (years ago). It just pulls out of the holder

Leather gear lever cover? Never seen a replacement cover. I changed the plastic gear knob to a leather covered one about 8-9 years ago.

Did you staple the new leather handbrake cover to the old plastic surround?

My bulb doesn't look like that, and I cannot withdraw it from the holder. It appears clipped with no way to Unclip it. I tried pliers and it wouldn't come out. Which is related to why it's now smashed....

Leather boot, not lever cover. Tried to staple it, failed. Wedged it. If that doesn't work, I'll try something else!

Can you post a pic of the holder?

    I read it as this:

I thought that was the problem.

Re the boot, it is a tad hard to staple! You can't use an office stapler.

    It looks like this: http://www.rovahfarm.com/images/AMR2678.png

The bulb holder at the back appears clipped in. I have some Selleys Ultrarepair glue which I may be able to use to fix it. That stuff withstands over 100C temps.

Okay. Same bulb type as the one used on the ciggie lighter for the Freelanders. Need a lot of prying, cursing & swearing to get it out......for the 1st time at least. But it can be done using a little elbow grease & gray matter.

It sounds like what you've tried to remove is the green plastic bit which, if I recall correctly, doesn't need to come out to replace the bulb. Slide the black bulbholder out of the green bit, then pull the bulb out of the black holder.

I can, later today, pull mine out and take pics.
