    Blend motors

The wife has been saying that her side blows hot air while mine blows cool air. Of course, women have trouble with telling temperature so I ignored her for a while. But, she's right.

I assume this will be the blend motor on the left hand side. I assume I take the glove box out and then what. I recently brought Dave's Rave CD so that might give me a clue. I am hoping that it is just stuck but we will see.

Feel free to offer advice as this will be new to me. I have to get the dash out this weekend to replace a globe or two and then I will formulate a plan of attack for the blend motor.

I wrote some of the procedure up here: Blend Motor Diagnosis and Replacement

I didn't do the LHS until well after that was written.

That page has other links to the how-tos I wrote for removing the radio, HEVAC control panel, fascia switch pack, the side covers, heater core O-rings, etc.

Most women I know tend to blow hot air and even when they're wrong they're right ;-)

Thanks p38arover. I have bookmarked that page. I just went for a 100km drive with a bit of gravel, some strange things happened. I now have cool air both left and right and were I had thought I had done a globe on the instrument cluster it now works. I suspect the globe just had to settle back down as we had the cluster out and must have upset it.

The flap that is controlled by the blend motor must have been similar with the flap stuck open. Would this be possible because I like to let sleeping dogs lie if I can. Will the flap cause the blend motor to strip its gears if I do nothing as it seems to be working now.

Don't know whether its true or not, but it would sound nice to say "if somethings not working quite right on your rangie... just take it for a drive off road and everything will sort itself!

    LHS blend motor tips?

I'm about to tackle the LHS blend motor which has been dead for some time.
I've been reading the rangerovers.net guide, just wondering if anyone can offer any tips? It's a little bit vague as to exactly what I need to remove.
I'm going to use the shortcut method without dismantling the entire dash, and splice a single blend motor in.
What do I need to take off to do this job? Once I have the side console panel and glove box removed, do I need to take out the SRS airbag and radio/hevac modules?
Any tips appreciated, just doing my homework before diving in!
    Thanks, Pete.

Hi PeterH, I will be watching this thread as although it is now not blowing hot air out the left the book symbol and exclamation mark are still there, even though I had the battery disconnected yesterday while I wired up the UHF radio. I am really not looking forward to this and looking for reasons to delay it.

Yes I hear you, not the most fun thing you could be doing.
Another cause for the book symbol to come on is a failed heater core temp sensor.
It just clips on the lower heater pipe under the drivers side dash, bit tricky to get to though.
It does sound like a stuck flap or blend motor issue for you though if you have hot and cold blowing either side.
I'll keep you posted when I get around to doing the blend motor on mine.
