I want to buy one !

hi all, I am currently considering buying a p38 as my old Classic is long in the tooth and much though I love it the time has come. I am currently looking at a '99 4.6ltr. What should I look out for (in brief), is traction control on all 4 wheels - I have recently read an article which is confusing on this issue. I believe that it does and that traction control on the rear wheels only applied to earlier models. The old Classic has many modifications amongst which are a bull bar and rear wheel carrier. After confering with ARB, Kaymar and Land Rover Aust the last advised that Disco 2 bars with a little modification will suit. Has anyone tried this and can give me feedback ? Thanks, Baz

A search of these threads will yield several posts listing the factory mods associated with the 1999 so-called "Bosch" upgrade from the GEMS ...they go well beyond just 'traction control'.

PaulP38A Hardrange (that's his real name) can organise a superdooper aluminium engineering certified bar for the front (AFAIK the only one thus properly certified) which can attach everything including a flux capacitor

your life is about to change

There are a few things to check, certainly the suspension is a big one. Check the bushes, shocks and when raised to "high" check the condition of the airbags. If they are becoming perished then it will almost be due to get a new set of bags ($500 to $1000 depending on which brand if you fit them yourself).

The engine will need a good pressure test and cooling system check. It's also a good idea to ask the owner to ensure its cold for when you get there so you can have a cold start check (rattles, lifter noise, etc).

Also check carpets for signs of water, check small things like cruise control, working lights inside and out, stereo and speakers working, power windows and sunroof operate correctly, undercarriage for signs of off road abuse, etc.

Others will no doubt have more to add to this!

    Cheers
