Who's got Spotlights?

I use one of these. Got it on fleabay.

Yes they are thin but have not noticed any light movement.

Very easy to copy out of suitable angle iron.

The locking switch. Hmm, my car needs a clean. :(

I got part of a P38A loom from AndrewE to get the matching plug for the back of the switch. I have a wiring diagram of how I wired it somewhere around here.

I have been wondering where to mount the UHF antenna. With this little thing it will fit between the two driving lights that have been laying around in the garage.

Next problem.. how to provide a good earth.

Earth for the lights or the antenna?

My lights had a 2-wire cable so the earth was taken back to the battery.

My UHF antenna is on a bracket attached to the slam panel.

Can spotties be wired normally on a rangie using the headlight wire as a switch wire and the power from the battery through a relay etc etc or will the computer detect this as a problem?

That's how I did mine, no problems.

I ran the earth switching side of the relay into the car to save running a live wire through the firewall.

Can I not just earth in the engine bay/chassis/battery?

Yes but you need to operate the relay somehow so you need a +ve or a -ve running to it from the switch.
I chose -ve but it's up to you.

As you should use a switch inside the car to determine if you spot lights come on with high beam or not...There are basically two ways to wire that switch.

1. the switch interupts the positive power to the relay from the highbeam (relay earth always connected)
2. the switch earths the relay (positive from highbeam always connected to relay)

For option 1 - place the switch next to the 1A fuse

Finally got around to fitting my spot lamps. Slightly different to others. I went with 4 1/2 inch 55w Hid spot lamps as I wanted to keep as much unrestricted airflow as possible. Also wanted them as high as practically possible so I made up a custom lamp bar to fit onto the existing threaded holes on the top of the factory A bar.
