Been there, done that. Was much easier than I thought. Just let the other half take the stock one for an extended drive, and tell her not to worry about the fuel bill. Mine was hooked and still hasn't given it back.
Once hooked, tell her how much sense it makes from a sparing perspective that you both drive P38's so can swap parts when troubleshooting. When you buy random spare parts and go-better bits, it could be for either car so you are covered... you are experimenting on yours for safety and reliability before transferring to hers.
I've watched my better half talking to friends and new acquaintances... she loves to tell them how she drives a Range Rover... Sometimes she even tries to justify it by saying that her husband does most of the servicing :)
There are so many reasons your better half should be driving a Range Rover (ignore the fuel bill)... her safety, your kid's safety, your peace of mind, better/higher driving position, handling on-road and on rural tracks and wet conditions.
Is parking a problem? Install a reversing camera and small screen near the centre air vents... no longer a problem.

Paul, all very good and legite arguments. But alas I fear even my romantism over the p38 doesn't stretch that far. Neither would I expose my wallet to such risk.

My misses used to drive mine fairly regularly. She used to love it. Ever so sexy to see a woman driving a p38 too.

She's to addicted to her A3 125kw diesel engine now. Which I can also relate to. Economical and hot hatch performance.

No I'm afraid I can only afford to have one mistress (Nora the roarer) in my life.

You wouldn't have any info/data on intake temps and fuel economy would you? I'm interested in this not only for water crossings, but hopefully to lower intake temps on hot days.

I may have missed this in previous posts but am interested in whether you (Lucky 8) have either relocated the BECM or waterproofed it somehow under the seat. The snorkel will be great (engine wise) but the P38's problem with water is more about keeping the BECM alive and dry at least from what I have read. Haven't had the guts to take mine for a swim as yet.

I've noticed a marginal improvement in intake temps (and fuel consumption). It does, however, take a short while before the air temp drops (most likely a result of stainless steel and sun in my case). After 15mins it cools quite nicely. Highway consumption has dropped to around 10.5l/100km on mine (from 11 - kms vs fuel bowser verified by GPS). I don't have physical data to back the temps up though.

I have reversed that by lifting my Rangie now though!

Is your snorkel 90mm?

75mm snorkel.

Yeah that's unloaded economy, I did a run to cairns with my full camping turnout, foxwing and oztent and shovel on the roof, full load in the back, got 13.4 (may have been a tad lower, was a few months ago).

For those worried about the 75mm dia being too small and effecting performance, don't fret! I've done a few 200 series at the lights recently...
