Rear diff locker

From my limited experience with lockers I can only comment on my ARB type. It was fitted with a mate and was not that hard as he had a dial gauge for the backlash.
When it worked it was great but in the last two weeks its been leaking air into the axle. I have had it out to inspect and all looked ok and sealed up on the bench. Pressure tested fine. Back in the car 3 days on and it leaks again. Other worry was it somehow pushed a litre of diff oil up the air pipe and through the compressor solenoid.
If you start searching for answers Via google this seems to be quite common through various makes of vehicle and no one has a definitive reason.
I am not complaining as the whole set up was $500 but I dont think I would ever buy this type again.

and Keithy was the procedure to install straight forward or not. I have not gone near a diff previously and share the reluctance of others if its tricky.
Does it come with its own compressor or does it hook up to the EAS compressor? Was thinking about the Air Locker for the future but am tempted to go for an early install.

Yeah see I've heard of quiet a few incidents of similar cases of air leaks, hence the reason why I'm a little reluctant to go air locker, as e-lockers are less prone to these issues, though I'm still yet to find a locker company that makes e-lockers for P38.

Now we seemed to be getting somewhere.

KAM seems to have what I'm looking for with the added feature of LSD built in. Their not cheap though.

Peter, yeah it's pretty straight forward. As long as you have a reasonable tool kit and someone on hand to set the backlash or show you how, you can't go wrong!

You'll need sealant for the mating faces of the diff and new oil as your consumables, and a copy of rave to guide you along. I also took the opportunity to replace my outer axel seals while I had them out.

I'd highly recommend a hoist too.

Those maybe the ones we use on our truck. I had them on our D2 project and was happy with them for the most part

Hi all, just an update. After carefull consideration, I'm leaning back towards the Ashcroft locker based on my mechanics advice. Though I like the KAMS, the install process is apparently more complex, with the Ashcroft being more simpler set up, though being air operated, it seems more robust than ARB's version.

I take there's no other locker system out there that I should know about?

There is also the TJM Prolocker (based on the McNamara design) - but I am not sure if it is available for the P38 diff.

Yeah spoke to someone about it tonight, but he wasn't sure wether they are suitable for P38's, as they're more so made for the defenders & D1 & D2's.

I don't know how good they are either;)
