    Question L322 EAS height sensor on p38

    Has anyone tried using a L322 or Disco 2 height sensor
    on a P38 ? They look like they use the same
    5v/ground/ voltage out as a P38 .
    Are the Hall effect sensors more reliable/ accurate ? From what
    I've read it sounds like there's no contacts in them to wear out.
    Thinking about getting a Disco 2 sensor to muck around with.

    Not sure about that. I think somewhere i read that the later EAS (L322, Disco 2 etc..) Use a pulsed digital output, where as our p38's use a Potentiometer and measures the resistance.

    That's interesting to know, I'm getting a Disco 2
    sensor from a breaker soon so I'll try it out & see
    what happens.

    They all output an analogue voltage but the voltage at the normal height position may be different and the voltage curve may be different too which would affect the voltage for other heights.

    I thought I would have to recalibrate the test
    corner anyway but I see your point & it will be
    interesting to see how different the readings
    are from an original sensor, I realize the ecu
    only likes feed back within a certain range too
    which is why I'm going to try 1 first to see
    what happens.
    Do you know if the newer sensors are better?
    I can only presume they wouldn't make them
    worse.

    Early D3 sensors seemed to have a higher than expected failure rate and were replaced with a better version so I tend to agree that later sensors tend to get better.

    A sensor from another vehicle needs to have its arm move in the same relative arc as the one you're wanting to replace otherwise you might find the voltage changing in the wrong direction to what you need, noting that each corner can be different depending on the sensor mounting position relative to the suspension movement.

    I just fitted a Disco 2 height sensor to the back of my second p38 to test if it would work , and it does!
    The arm from the D2 sensor to the elbow is a little shorter but it seems to work fine.
    I made a loom to go from the D2 sensor's plug [came with one from the breaker] and an old height sensor cable.
    folded up a piece of alloy sheet I had & bolted it on the frame & D2 sensor, pluged it in & callibrated that corner.
    All the settings are a bit high so i need to adjust the angle of the sensor to bring them down with the new bracket.
    Next is a front sensor swap , the original arm is a lot shorter so a bit more to check on that.

    If only the D2 arms were longer than the p38. It would then provide an (almost) off the shelf solution for use with lifted vehicles .
