    P38 Custom Bar Work

Thought I'd share the progress with my custom bar work from Ben at APT Fabrications in Tingalpa, obviously, nothing is available off the shelf for a P38 so its all being custom made to my specifications.

The front bar is just about done and the Tigerz11 Grande 12,000lbs winch has been installed. I went for the more original look with no 'roo' protection bars around the radiator and lights, maybe I'll regret that if I do hit an animal one day but we mainly drive on beaches and don't go 'bush' much so I'm happy for now.

Pictures below of the work so far.

I also got some rock sliders fitted.

Here it is on the beach on the west coast of Moreton Island a couple of weeks ago, great weekend away despite the weather. The 165/75R16 KM2's were awesome, even climbing the steep dunes on the east coast to get to the camp sites.

Coming next will be a new rear bar with dual wheel carriers, one side will hold two jerry cans for now as the 4.6 V8 really drinks its way through fuel when driving on sand.
I'm also getting some custom side bars from the front tot he back of the rock sliders, this will let them work as tree sliders too and widen the 'step' area to help the kids get in and out which they'll need after it gets its suspension lift.
There's also a bash plate to protect the radiator and weld on diff protection coming, the slider type diff protectors for the P38 take away a good inch of ground clearance and turn the diffs into ploughs. I'm also planning fuel tank protection and proper recovery points on the chassis.

I'll update this thread with progress.

Looking good mate, I am seriously thinking about tree sliders as well, better that than a pushed in door if you slide into something !

Looks great there mate. Nice front bar.

Had a roo run into my side steps on my L322 the other night. Only a smallish one not a 7' monster. No real damage, just a bit of fur here and there haha. Without the side steps recon I'd be looking for a couple of doors at the least. Was doing a 100 kph at the time & he ended up going under the car.

    Keep up the good work

It looks like you've found yourself a great fabricator! I also like the fact that the winch does nor protrude very far from the original lines of the car. Well done!
Just curious, are you using crash cans or straight to the chassis?

Looking great. Is the fabricator making a jig up so they can sell more of them to other P38 owners, or are these a one-off?

    Cheers, Paul.

Very neat looking. Great to see this kind of work being done. It's reassuring to know there are others out there.

Yeh this bar looks great. Was contemplating the Xrox bar but if this will be reproduced at a reasonable price and come adr approved for our p38 there is another option I'd consider.

And the sill protectors.. I've drawn up some design but didn't quite round to getting them fabricated.

    Hi,

I intend to do quite a bit of bush work, so it seems that the sliders, together with the full MCC bar for frontal protection, are the way to go
