    Sliders

    Hi

I am not thinking about slider designs and wondered who has what fitted and where they attach them

The RockRover design seem to attach to the chassis

Rock Sliders for Range Rover 4.0/4.6/P38A

According to that page there are existing holes in the frame which can be used

Looks like the terrafirma ones connect to the chassis as well

Range Rover P38 rock sliders with tree bars

I think the chassis is the place to connect them for sure and I think the RockRover ones look pretty nice

I've got some aftermarket side steps that are fitted to the chassis with a front and rear bracket. They'd offer some protection but I doubt they'd hold the weight of the vehicle. They bolt in to existing rivnuts in the chassis rails. Think they were chrome bearnachs. Had them painted black though.

Can post pictures if anybody is interested.

Anyone in Perth looking for Rocksliders with steps / tree protectors there is a guy on Gumtree advertising D2 bars. They look good and strong. He said he can do for a P38. You would need to pursue him for a price, his add says open to offers. He is in Bunbury

I just assumed they could clamp over the top of chassis. Seen many designed like this, then they can have more than the two brackets. I originally drew some up that used those two holes but its real tight in there and only use two holes.. But yeh the rock rover ones use those holes from what it looks like in the photos.

Benji seemed to say he never uses those holes in the chassis and goes over the top when its possible. He reckons that the chassis holes elongate and become loose after a while. His comments, not what I expected, but he has built quite a few more sliders in his life than me.

Just some incomplete drawings and not accurate enough to give to a fabricator without them checking the measurements (I just used a tape measure and eyed everything).

I made the pins as the holes are quite big in the chassis, but you wouldn't get a bolt that size through there because the holes are quite restricted. The idea was for those pins to increase their shear capacity and stop the sliders flexing or moving in the chassis holes due to only using smaller bolts.

Admittedly, this deisgn is only a protoype (and based off the rockrover design pics I saw) and can probably be done a lot better but just posting it for info. I have the dwg file (autocad) but it comes up as invalid file to upload here.

I'm likely to change my design now to be round tube and a little more aggressive look I'd say. Just don't think these will match my front bar. It's like a womans shoes need to match their handbag, front and rear bar should match the sliders

i made my own and they are very strong i did copy Rock Rover regarding mounting, the bolts were hard to install but they have been on for two years and are still tight. Here are a couple of pictures.
