Removing it should pose no problem. In fact once removed you have got yourself a source of income if you chose to sell any of the bits

If you remove the EAS System the only bad thing would be it will be harder to re-instate. There will be a ready market for your bits others want to keep their cars working the way they were designed to.
If its all there why dont you put it back to stock, I have recently done it, its not hard and very satisfying.

Do you have any EAS error messages on your dash?

I do have an EAS mesage that say its in manual.
I was thinking about putting it back and i have a mechanic lined up to do it for free. But he says the EAS is a stupid and trouble prone thing to have, is he right.

The only thing thats not there is the EAS springs, everything else is in place.

When the EAS works its a fantastic thing allowing four different heights of travel. Not many 4x4's offer that. If it's problematic it's a PITA.

Do you still have the height sensors installed?

Let's hope the EAS was disabled due to leaking bags and nothing else. If it's just matter of sourcing the air bags/springs then it's half a day of a job.

I'd try testing the compressor first of all. Jumper the relay (I'll remind myself which one). With a pressure gauge on the air tank line you'll see if it generates 145psi. That'll tell you if you need to rebuild the compressor (easy enough).

It'd be worthwhile treating it to a new dryer and exhaust silencer. I'd leave a rebuild of the valve block as the last resort. See if it works straight of the blocks (excuse the pun).

I get the impression he's not a Land Rover mechanic then.
If you want to go back to EAS, I suggest finding another mechanic or get schooled up on how to DIY.

The reason I asked about error messages is if the eas is removed you will get eas fault messages all the time. There are ways to stop this with plug in units and or wiring modifications. It would seem your car has had the error messages stopped. I have no idea how or where this is done but would suggest you find out before removing anything. You never know, you could remove whatever is stopping the messages and they will drive you mad.

I am curious which mechanic in Canberra:
    1. is prepared to put EAS in to a P38
    2. knows enough about EAS to have an opinion

Only guy I know who knows and cares for P38's is Ray at Canberra Motor Works, and I am pretty sure he doesn't think EAS is stupid.

If you are serious about wanting to reinstate the EAS, drop over and see me one weekend. All going well, we can have it running again in the time it takes to down a few coffees or beers.
