Thread: OK i give up.

Light on = A/C off.
Light off = A/C on, but only when it needs to be as it's part of the climate control system.


That's why the switch is labelled A/C OFF.




So.....


Light off but outside temp is cold & you want inside warm - means the A/C won't be operating.
Light off but outside temp is hot & you want inside cold - A/C will be operating by cycling the compressor on/off as needed.

Great explaination; to add to that, if you are low on air con gas the light will still be on but the aircon may be off.

Thats the bit that gets me. What does it mean by when it needs to be. I read in the book it flashes, but what does this mean.

Maybe i should just give up and have the light on all the time.

derpomz, by far the easiest option is set your temperatures and push the AUTO button on the HEVAC control panel (just to the left of the A/C off button. The car will look after the rest pretty well.

It's a fully automatic climate control system. It works out whether it needs to heat or cool the cabin and uses the heat or the air-con as needed.

Turning the air-con off just means it is unable to cool the cabin.

As I said I just leave mine on Auto and it is great 90% of the time, mind you I have seat heaters as well

When the light flashes that means the air outside is not cold enough to cool the cabin to the desired temperature. For example: you select say 18 degrees with the A/C off, the outdoor temperature may be 20 degrees, so what the flashing of the light is trying to tell you is that it cannot reach the selected 18 degrees without the A/C. So it flashes to tell you to switch the A/C on so that the climate control can get the cabin temperature down to the desired 18 degrees. The system is actually quiet clever, but as mentioned before, leave it on 'Auto' and the system will take care of itself. Plus its a good idea not to have A/C off for too long anyway, as by not running the A/C will eventually dry up the seals and spring a gas leak, and a rather expensive repair bill. For the tiny extra 0.5% of the fuel that it uses, its not worth the head ache later. Take it from me!!

If you have reverse cycle air conditioning in your house do you worry about whether it is heating or cooling right now, or do you just set the thermostat and let the system do what it is designed for?

It's the same with the P38 climate control; set the temperature and let the system do what it is designed to do. That's the way I look at it anyway.

I suggest this horse (or is it a parrot?) is now well and truly dead, deceased, shuffled off this mortal coil etc
