Ok, so now after many more hrs trawling the net, it seems I might NOT have the correct booster/master cylinder, the conflicting info is frustrating to say the least.. I wish I had a P38 living next door to check things on
My previous info had me believing STC2778 is the 2w TC unit, however I must have stumbled across the only place on the internet that said this was the case.
After checking 'properly' it seems that this is actually the NO TC unit - I need ANR2239..... Hopefully one of you guys could check your part number ?
Assuming I now have to correct info, does anyone know of a P38 being broken in Northern Vic? I've been using Matar Motors in Melb who's pretty reasonable, but hoping to try this change over in the next couple of days, bit hard to get to Melb..
So to answer the very last question on my first post - yes, I'm an idiot

According to the parts list, ANR2779 is the only ABS modulator without Traction Control.
Have you repeated your wheel lift test at an engine speed above idle? They do need a few revs before TC kicks in but, thankfully, nowhere near as many as a D2.

Scouse,
That's the info I had too, man this is doing my head in, who would've guessed this car would have this effect on a new owner...
STC2778 - This is the one my car has (I thought was OK, but there is conflicting info)
STC2779 - No TC
ANR2238 - ?
ANR2239 - ? (more forum info says this is the one I need)
Yes, repeated the opposite raised wheel test with acceleration, definitely a no.

STC2778 has TC according to the parts list.
I can't see any ANR#### numbers in the parts listing but I have just checked my spare 1995 HSE & it has ANR2239 on the modulator body itself.
I think you'll find STC2778 is the modulator body & reservoir assy and ANR2239 is just the modulator body.
The current parts list doesn't show the modulator body as being available separately (without the reservoir) so I can safely assume you have the correct one now.
I think I'd be starting to get some diagnosis done first, or call into a dealer & get the build spec for your car (unless someone here has access to TOPIx & can check your VIN).

After going through these numbers, my DSE has ANR2238 on the modulator body so it looks like I don't have TC on that car.
I'll have to go through the wiring diagrams because I recently stripped out the ABS harness & replaced it with one from my spare HSE.

Found this post on another forum
The 38A Range Rovers are never fitted by Land Rover with an LSD.
All have a Viscous Coupling across the output shafts of the Transfer Box centre differential, to ensure both propshafts always spin at about the same speeds, but the axle differentials are open.
Traction Control is supplied on some models, by applying the brake(s) on the faster spinning wheel(s), but this was not part of the standard '95 diesel offering. It was also not offered on the 4.0 models, but was standard on the 4.6's, on only the rear axle. After 1999 it was standard on both axles, I think on all models, whatever engine was specified.
Note that with ETC came stronger axle differentials (4 pinion instead of 2 pinion).

So, after a call from Benji to give me the bad news, I'm currently having a beer and coming to terms with the fact that my dream car is the lowest possible spec'd P38 that was ever made, its so low spec it's possibly also a Friday Arvo car and they forgot a few things......
Oh well, it's already on the way to being reasonably well setup for getting off road, the hrs that have gone into it are huge, the ride is like nothing else, it's a beautiful car and I'll get over it...
Very impressed with those on this forum that are willing to offer help and suggestions...
Thanks guys

After searching a few fora this afternoon & all the info I can find seems to confirm what you said in your initial post,
Some say they used the original ECU & some say they changed it. What's the number on your ECU?

Yeah I think those threads are where I got the idea from that I could 'easily' fit the correct parts and off I go, but it looks like I already have them, Benji said the Nanocom can't access or turn the TC on..
My ECU is ANR4898, which my understanding is the same as the 4.6's with rear TC ..
Not sure why those guys simply plugged in and away they went, frustrating a bit though..... Haha, Think the best way to tackle this problem might be with old school momentum....
