Thanks everyone. The low kilos are a worry, was it smashed and sitting in a repairers yard for a long time? Or even if the Kms are legitimate, does sitting not being used do a car any good? Decisions, decisions.
There's an aulro member called club agreeing who does pre purchase inspections for about $200, he says it takes about four hours so I assume it's pretty comprehensive. He's a landrover v8 fanatic so he might be better than a generic Norma type inspection. I don't know.
Or there is a mob called state roads who do inspections including a paint thickness test to see if it has had any repairs to body work and I think they do leak down compression tests. Trouble is, I live five hours away from Sydney so such an inspection is worth it to me, but if I end up doing too many of them the cost soon mounts.
I'll give the owner a ring tomorrow and see if I can find out why such low Kms first.
Once again thanks for the advice and suggestions, and please keep them coming, the more I know the better.

There's also a silver one with 157klms that looks too good to be true, it doesn't have a single badge on the almost virginal paint on the tailgate. Re spray methinks. Stay clear the little voice says in my ear.

Speak to the guy at Lab Electronics on the Sth Coast about keys, he can do them for quite a good price these days

It does look good but checking the "P38" things is always worthwhile. Book Symbol, Brake charge up time are two which come to mind

Try to find out what has been done, ie. Blend Motors etc especially.

And make sure it drives nicely with not a lot of transmission whine or clunks and groans when you drive it.

Age is a factor with with these vehicles, so a lot of the little plastic bits like washer jets will probably need replacing

The car looks fantastic in the pics - almost new. I'd be concerned that it racked up its kilomteres in short cold runs...aka mums school run taxi.

BUT -

If all else checks out as okay and the car is a long term keeper is the cost of a heads off freshen up worth it for what the car actually is? The pristine keeper it presents as.

The leather looks clean. Have a look at the wear on the pedals. That's always a give away.

Mine was a low k car of 1995 vintage, it had done 25k in the 7 years before I bought it.
I did get a spate of early troubles from lack of use / lack of fluid circulation / lack of warmth to keep electronics dry. After working through those you end up a good vehicle with a heap of life left in it.
I would be aware of things like brittle bushes in the suspension, brake fluid that has absorbed moisture, coolant that has gone acidic, aircon compressor not turned over regularly, seals gone hard causing oil / air leaks.
