    O2 sensors for 1995 P38 4L Petrol/LPG

Hi! I have a 1995 P38 4L Petrol/LPG , apparently this is the only year model to com to Australia without any oxygen sensors. The 1996 cam with 2 x O2 sensors before the catalic converter.
I have checked and there are connections on both sides of the gear box, but nothing on the exhaust.
I would like to find out if I install O2 sensors on the exhaust would the computer detect them?
I have connected an HHO generator to the motor but without the O2 sensor the Volo chip can’t communicate with the ECU properly.
    Cheers

I think phantom38 has been through the very same issue. I'm sure he'll see your post and offer his wisdom. Try PM'ing him.

    Hi

It seems that 97 may have been the year O2 sensors were added, I just fitted new cat converters and added O2 sensors to my 96MY. It did not have O2 sensors to start with.

While it is true that the loom is there, apparently the ECU does not recognise them unless you upgrade to a later ECU or fit a tornado chip

Hi mate I recently fitted O2 sensors to my 95 Gems.
    1. Make sure the sensors you buy have the correct connectors as there are at least 2 types. ( I think Gems & Bosch plugs )
    2. You will need to weld sensor mounts to exhaust system near existing connector plugs
    3. You will need to obtain a later ( I think we used a 98 model ) ECU.
    4. It will then need to activated via computer ( Rovacom or similar )
    5. Then just verify by same computer that it has picked up the new values
    and all is done.
    Good luck.

Wine1951 re. your HHO generator... see post by "frollard" in How to assemble a HHO Generator and why it works

Please don't be offended ...we really are a pretty decent bunch...but there's a short fuse when it comes to scams. HHO generators, HiClones... (the late) Peter Brock's "Polariser"... all live in the parallel universe with healing properties of new age crystals, tinfoil hats and razor sharpening pyramids ... the HHO generator concept is flawed science. A concern re the Volo chip is that if you allow it to override the ECU, you may find the engine running very lean (around 18:1air/fuel instead of 14.7:1) and end up with a burnt valves and a very expensive repair bill...
An electrolysis unit draws energy from the engine via the alternator charging the battery. Assuming you could build an electrolysis unit generating sufficient hydrogen to make a difference, the power drain "electrically" on the engine would be more (allowing for inefficiencies and losses) than the energy produced by increased combustion of the hydrogen ...it's essentially a "zero sum" arrangement.

welcome aboard. Hope you get your system sorted and enjoy the P38 experience!
