1999 P38 Front Bumper + Rotary Coupler wanted

Hi, I had the unfortunate luck of someone hitting my passenger side front bumper in a car park (an apparent hit and run).....now cracked quite badly on one corner.....looking to replace if anyone knows where I can purchase a good quality 2nd hand bumper.

Also I am told by Toorak Tractor in Braeside that I heed a replacement rotary coupler as my SRS and AIRBAG FAULT lights are active on my dash.

    Any help appreciated

    Cheers!

See the wrecking section of this forum. There's also a few going on ebay at the moment.

The rotor coupler is not common to fail so I would be looking for a bad connection in the wiring. Favourite places are the plugs under both seats if you have bolster airbags and the one located to the left lower corner of the speedo cluster. All the SRS wiring is bright yellow. Pull apart plugs, clean and refit.
    Disconnect the battery 1st.

Hmmm... if you can get someone with a LR diagnostic tool* to have a look at the exact SRS fault codes ( * a "non V.I.N.-specific " Faultmate or LR "Test Book" ) it may save you a lot of unnecessary mucking around and expense.

As Wayneg has noted, the spider is fairly robust and some reports from others who have replaced it "on spec" indicate that the fault was still there. If your steering wheel controls still operate the radio/CD etc and cruise control then there's no reason why the SRS should suddenly fail and not the other functions...

So, as pointed out there are a couple of major places: one is the plug under the driver's seat, another is the multi-plug which goes into the lower LH corner of the instrument pack. The driver's seat is a known one because the plug may not have been properly secured and works itself loose with the driver's seat being continually adjusted.

Are both dash lights operating properly? if one bulb is U/S (=unserviceable) the other will light up and you'll get a message on the message centre..

There is another in-line connector above the large underside steering column cover/panel ...the one immediately above your knees. To remove the cover there are 4 long machine screws and two self-tapping screws (one on either side of the steering column near the respective indicator/wiper-washer stalks. check RAVE for details

The bright yellow conduit contains the SRS wiring, The plug is retained with a clip into the under-structure cross strut. This is important because it prevents the plug vibrating loose.
It took me 6 months to find and clear an errant "driver's side airbag" message ...this particular plug had not been secured and was disconnected internally

As wayneg warned: Disconnect the battery -Both Terminals! and wait at least 20 mins for the capacitors to discharge otherwise you run the risk of accidentally setting the whole SRS thing off ...(then you won't have to worry about error messages)

    Good luck with it

ONE MORE THING: VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE

Do NOT check connectivity with a multimeter! To do so sends a small current through the circuit. The manufacturers warn against this...can set off the SRS ... Best to just clean all the contacts and make sure the connectors are properly snug when you push them together...

FYI....all steering wheel buttons work except for cruise control
