    Cool The thing's possessed!!!!! 2000 P38a

I have just finished repairing the top radiator tank after it split - evil thing. So I filled it, bled it, filled it, bled it and all was well.

    Or so I thought...

Closed the driver's door and locked the car.

A couple of minutes later, I was alerted to the engine cranking...ran out to the car, no one about, engine cranking really well, open car then bonnet, then unhook negative terminal.

Cranking stops. Check everything over, can't see anything wrong, no weird smoke escaping. Hook battery back up, reset all the windows again and go inside and scratch the thinning thatch...

    Cranking starts AGAIN>>>^)&^&*)(#*)_(#)(!+=0!!!!

I stopped it after lifting off the negative. Now I figure there's a really easy solution to this mystery, but I'm darned if I know what it is.

Can anyone give me a start point???

That would be a scary noise. When I had strange haunted issues like that it was caused by:
RF interference killing battery causing low power BeCM confusion causing immobiliser issues and BeCM craziness and door latch failure.

However, this may be as simple as coolant in the fusebox, or a faulty starter relay?

    Make sure that:
    - your battery is excellent (not just ok)(see electrical sticky),
    - you have good batteries in your keyfob,
    - you have the EKA code,
    - all your earth points (3 key ones) are clean and tight,
    - your P38 is sleeping all night (watch the red light next to the Park gear position after 120seconds once locked - it must stay extinguished).

Water or coolant in the fuse box may have bridged a terminal. Time for a blow-dry!

There just might be a problem with the fuse box wrt the starter relay, independently of the radiator repairs if you didn't spill any coolant on it... or there may be a problem with the starter solenoid...

    Unhappy What happened next..

    Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

Checked out the 666 problem. The fuse block is in a really bad way, with RL 7 and RL 10 the outstanding scorched performers. It appears that this shorting problem is causing the SM relay to operate via BeCM. Another has been sourced and is on the way.

Hopefully, a solution is coming from the home of Australian submarines... Keep you posted.

    Cheers

if the relays are scorched then there is a high probability that the fusebox itself is cactus

    Replacement time !

    Smile

Well, the replacement YLE 103410 took about 10 mins to fit after checking that all was as it should have been.

Problem solved. Now to what caused it.... investigation starts tomorrow 0800.
