Transmission flex plate
Hi, I recently purchased a P38 , drove well, no problem with gear changing , just a noise from the bell housing area. Removed the transmission and found the flex plate had been mounted incorrectly, engine had been recently replaced. NO spacer behind the flex plate. TC was only just connecting to the transmission pump and worn away the top corners of the of the TC /pump coupling.
Part of the input shaft was blue from o/heating near the thrust bearing.
I was able to obtain a replacement transmission , I was not sure what other damage had been done to the original.
When I fitted the new transmission the TC has approx. 4mm of end float.
I understand that approx. 2mm of end float is recommended
Can anyone advise me If 4mm is Ok, and if not what is the correct fix?
Thanks
Chalky

Hi Chalky
The spacers are different depending upon whether you have a 4.0 or a 4.6 engine.
Not sure about the exact end float specs but I am sure there are others on here who will comment on that
