96 HSE auto torque converter not locking up anymore

Hi guys, been a while since i have been on and car has had a few more issues arise. The biggest seams to be the gearbox. It drives smooth and changes well still, 350000 k's later with no servicing in the last 100000. Oil is still red and clean and at correct level, might be a little high but not too bad. It started hunting at around 100kmh to lock and unlock torque converter a few months ago. it would shudder on and off, pulling shifter back to third made it go away, put it back to D and would start again. Now it won't lock at all, still drives well , just revs more than before....would getting a service help or am i up for dollars. Was going to sell her but will be worth nothing if gearbox is knackered. As usual, any advice would be appreciated.I'm north of Brisbane.

I wouldn't think the box is stuffed, as you say it changes gears fine.

There's a solonoid that locks up the tc and is driven via the ecu. It maybe worth checking the continuity, plug etc.

I've read of the solonoid being replaced.

Mate, you won't believe it, I know I don't...it's back to working fine again. I drove it yesterday and the day before and it's locking in third and fourth, like it used to. I don't know...this car has moods. Thanks for responding, I had heard of the solenoid being replaced but would cost a bit.

Deano what you need to do is go and find yourself a female mechanic and it'll behave itself - well, that's what my wife tells me.

Maybe a bit of moisture in a plug under the car? Clutching at at straws here.

Benji, my wife rolls her eyes when I say anything about the car.....it's still working on too, maybe if I keep my sexy fingers away from it it will stay good...I will climb under and look for wiring but it could do with a transmission service. Also I bought a new maf sensor and needs to be retuned as idle is not good....here's hoping.

Did you reset the adaptive values after you put the new MAF in ?

Hi Steve, man I did not reset when I first put it in...the car must have adapted a stock setting as it ran pretty well with no sensor at all... I spoke to MR Automotive and they said it would learn new values but might take a few cycles... Sure enough, I have driven a few times now and appears to be running well. I set the lpg up again as back up, won't start on it but runs when warm. Auto is still working properly as well... Looks like I'll keep it a bit longer.
