p38 tyre pressure

Hi

I recently fitted BFG K2 in the size listed below. I noticed a tyre pressure recommendation form on their website, so i sent the following info


Vehicle Details:
Make: Land Rover 1996
Model: Range Rover P38 HSE
Current tyre size: 245/75R16
Original tyre size: 255/65R16
Front tyres: 28PSI
Back tyres: 38PSI
Terrain & Weight Carried:
Typical terrain covered in vehicle: Bitumen and some offroad
Approximate load (kg): 2100KG


And they came back with some pretty high everyday pressures as per the attached image!

Way higher than what i run! I normally use +4psi on the placard from LR for the 18" road tyres

I thought we touch on this topic a couple of years back? Anyhow, its good to revive it for the new.

28psi up front should be fine, as you got to remember the pressure raises about 4 psi after the tyres heat up from driving. Therefore realistically you're driving on 32 psi when warm. It's also a comfort thing, me personally keep the fronts on about 31psi (cold) for better fuel economy, and standard 38psi for the rear.

I prefer 40 psi front and back for the km2s on highway

I guess I'll try the pressures and see how it feels

Yeah you don't want to go too low on the 18"and have the fronts on no lower than 35psi (cold)

I've found with the km2s anything higher than 36 on the front it won't track properly (could be the stuffed swivels though).

Doing 5600km on new km2s there was no wear difference between front and rear (rear between 40-50psi).

and it is surprising how many people go with looks and feels. Not that I doubt their wisdom, but actual science seems to be a tough thing, I've not found any definitive answers yet. When my range rover is driveable again I'll take it to a friend to weigh the front/back just for fun.

Mines got a few extra bits hanging off it, but with 20lt of water in the carrier it was 1235kg front, and 1265kg rear.
