    Hi Flow Cats

I want to swap catalytic converters for hi flow cats. Would I be able to use universal parts? Perhaps cut out the old and weld in the new. There are plenty of affordable cats available. I thought a new set would help the old girl breath a little better. Any ideas?

I have had hi flow cats installed in my '95 HSE, but not much improvement subjectively. They were a 'universal' 2 1/4 " converter I think. Got a more impressive gain when the straight through muffler replaced the collapsed OE muffler. Great sound too!

While a good idea in theory, by itself it's unlikely to give you much performance boost. Big exhausts sound great though

I have read that older range rovers can have clogged cats and can be detrimental to health of engine. My vehicle is a 95 gems with 300,000kms has never suffered from overheating issues or blown head gaskets. I have read that older catalytic converters can suffer from carbon build up. I'm unsure whether replacing cats is a good idea or a waste of time?

clogged or collapsed cats degrade power and increase fuel consumption

Not sure how you tell if they are clogged, but if you bang on them and they rattle they are stuffed for sure !

If they look pretty old then it may be worth replacing them and if it comes to that then why not go for the high flow ones
