The Blob in the rearview mirror - LCD leak?

Hi everyone, I took the Rangie out for a quick run today, and when I drove off I noticed a faint blob in the rearview mirror.

You can just make it out in the photo - a wide oval, around where the interior light can be seen.

As well, it's also magnifying things behind me, according to where I look through it. You get to see the driver behind you at the lights VERY well.

I guess maybe the LCD in it (to darken it for nighttime use, that's how it works isn't it?) has leaked out between multiple bits of glass? Although The Blob is not all that dark..

Anyone else had this problem? I'm going to have to get another mirror, it's too annoying.

It's a very common problem & until recently the manufacturer (not LR) was even replacing the mirror with a bit of mucking around.

Don't leave it too long before replacing it. Eventually it will leak & it's very corrosive to the plastics in the drop zone.
